NBA Rumors: Knicks center Jericho Sims has fallen out of the rotation and seems to be involved in trade rumors according to NY Post's Stefan Bondy. Sims has had his opportunities in NY but just could never capitalize and crack the rotation. He played some key minutes at the beginning of the season when Precious Achiuwa was out due to his hamstring injury.
The Knicks are limited in what they can do on the trade market because of the NBA apron rules. Jericho Sims only makes 2,092,344, so the front office will have to get creative. One thing about this Knicks front office is they've shown you that they are always one step ahead of the curve and not afraid of making trades.
The issue with Sims is determining his value. It would essentially be a trade involving two teams with players who didn't succeed, and perhaps a change of environment would be beneficial.
Here's some packages that have been floating around:
Package 1:
Knicks Receive: Alec Burks
Heat Receive: Jericho Sims + 2nd Round Pick
Package 2:
Knicks Receive: Cam Whitmore
Rockets Receive: Pacome Dadiet, Jericho Sims
Which option would you select? Cam Whitmore is intriguing as a 6'7" wing capable of scoring. Although he has faced injuries in his career and some have questioned his attitude, these factors might cause hesitation. However, I believe the potential rewards justify the risk. The Knicks have been seeking a scoring wing for their bench, and considering Dadiet's inexperience and need for development, I would choose this route.
The Alec Burks package doesn't make much sense to me. This would be the third year with Burks in a Knicks uniform. Although I admire the player, I believe the Knicks should explore other options.
The NBA trading deadline is on February 6th.
